Get a starter off of a 6.9 ford diesel motor. They were available in the older model trucks. Should bolt right on and whip the fire out of it!

Your friend can also use a starter from a newer style 88 or super 88 diesel. His local starter and alternator store will have gear reduction starters that will match up with his old starter gears and mounting plate.

The ford starter is a gear reduction starter that is about 10lbs lighter, 10x more powerful and will bolt right up. The local NAPA should have them in stock. If not I've got a good one that I'll take $250 for.

Does the Ford starter work with the Oliver diesel flywheel or the gas flywheel? They ARE different.

The Ford starters work with a gas flywheel and bellhousing. Bolts right up!
