We were pulling my unstyled A a couple of weeks ago, my son was pulling it and i saw a little smoke coming from the crankcase breather when it got down to pulling real hard. It was running over stock rpm and has high comp pistons. Is this normal are has something gone bad. It only done it when pulling hard. Everything is new inside, has made about 7 or 8 pulls, seems to still pull good. Any thing to worry about, Thanks for any ideas, Ken.

I have a 47 JD-A that has the high compression aluminums (in a powerblock) from Hinnrich's for the past 3 years. It smokes a little out the vent when it is working, but from what I've been told that is not unusual when they are working. Mine has the cylinder head shaved into the eyebrows also. I use mine for tractorpulling only. Hope this helps.

Ken, you probably have nothing to worry about . But if it gets worse instead of better I would think about taking it down.#1 you have raised the compression from 4.5-----????? #2 did you snug the rods up tight ????The cyl only get oil from the throw off of the crank.#3 those old 1/4 in. rings don't seal high comp.I try to use 2 -1/8 in rings in the top ring for better cyl seal. This has worked best for me. What pistons alum or cast?? Happy Pulling. Earl in Illinois

They are aluminum pistons from Hinrichs supply. Don't remember the width of the rings, but i can see where two would be better than one. Thanks Ken.
