How much does it help to ran a straight, instead of the stock muffler?

Dad always said to figure a 5 hp gain with a large tractor. But can you really put a price on that lovely sound they make compared to that bland muffler? And it is a cheaper to get a straight pipe made, it's all a mater of personal preferance.

Dynoed a Stock Farmall M with muffler then without muffler. 1 hp difference.

A straight pipe will give you about 2 or 3 more horsepower, but the motor is built to run with back pressure from the muffler. More power or Pack pressure. You choose.

A straight pipe sure helps me not hear the horn when I am speeding. Got DQD twice last year.
