How are they getting M's in 4500????? I need some tips about how to lighten up a '39 M to get it light enough to pull 4500. Right now it weighs 4740 and all we have done is take off belt pulley, belly pump and all hydralics, the lights, and rear cast wheels for pressed steel. ALL COMMENTS APPRECIATED GREATLY..... .....FB

Here's what we did, Changed pedestal, pressed steel wheels front and rear (minimum weight wheels), put car drag tires on front end (much lighter), aluminum radiator, removed alternator and fan and hub assemblies, installed electric fan (not for weight for power), removed belly pump and pto shaft, removed all the trinkets, changed air cleaner, cut the tires, and we run 1/2/ tank of gas. Note, our club allows us to run with cut tires, probally took off 60 - 65 lbs. of rubber. Also we both went on diets. We are now well under 4500.

Plastic fuel tank holding a couple of gallons, light weight aluminium rad and electric fan. Open the excitation circuit on the charge system while pulling. Saves power from turning the fan and charging.

I have done all of these things plus a little more
and I am only down to 4700. to run in 4500 you have to get down to 4350 plus driver. So there must be more things you can do. trans cover?

Get you a narrow front pedestal off of a 656 International. The bolt pattern is the same as an M and it will have press steel wheels. It is lighter than a 560 and has a shorter stance. Take the breather system off and run some type of dry element. Ether make a home made draw bar or get one off of a H.

You can pull out the pto and cover the whole in the back. You can use a lighter air cleaner. Drain a few gallons of oil out of the rearend. You could also use welded on axle plates instead of hubs.

Put pressed rims on the front also. You can use a lighter front pedestal, such as a C. Look at the type of seat suspension you have. Might be able to save a few pounds there.
