Don't visit here that often but there was a post about a MH 55 on the Massey forum that got me wondering. Is there any advantage in tractor pulls of narrow vs wide fronts (or wide fronts over narrow fronts)? Haven't seen any real competitive pulls (just fun ones) and there are so few narrow fronts up here they probably wouldn't be there anyways. But I have wondered about it and maybe some of you guys can shed some light on the question.

Well,if you are getting alot of ground speed it would be a good idea to have I wide front. Narrow are good because the are lighter so you can get the tractor in the lighter classes plus it would help to balance the tractor out more. Wide fronts might be to heavy in the front at times.

As Jason pointed out the lighter weight of a narrow front can be an advantage, but there are some very light wide front ends made. Some pullers, subconciously, try to steer the tractor when the front end is in the air. This can cause a loss of control, lost pulling distance and possibly an accident if the front end comes down while the tractor is still in forward motion. The faster you are going the worse it will be.

Good Luck,
A.P.
