On the C.I. stamped on his block, If you went to your IH dealer in the 60's and wanted a replacement block for your H you would get a 300 or 350 block as its replacement. On some club rules it say's you must use the stock block or its replacement so he may not have been cheating, It depends on how the rules are stated..

Does anything in "writing" from Harvestor or Case-IH exist to back that up? Ken Updike and Guy Fay say no. Does sound logical that they wouldn't keep making the old block when the newer one was basically the same and interchanged. I'm sure the H and M part numbers were discontinued before the supers and letter series. Whether the older part number was actually replaced with the newer one is a very good question. I'd be interested in any more information you might have on that.

Well how'd your 350 diesel do against that mighty 169 cid H Dan? Could you have beaten him if you'd pulled that TA?

I hear ya! Sometimes that high horsepower doesn't pay off. It's the fellow who pulls 2 or 3 times a month and figures out his set-up that you have to worry about. The horsepower thing is over-rated. If a plain old M can spin 18.4x38s in second and he's within the rules who cares? He's still got to out-pull you. Stick to the classes where you have ample power and concentrate on putting it to the ground. You'll be surprised how well you do against those stripped and souped up tractors. Sounds like a pretty scrappy 350 you've got there.

C.O.A.T.P.A. and its dictator are the ones who invented the word CHEATERS in the tractor pulling world.

Oliver shows press steel wheels in their parts books for both the front and the back. Oliver also had a power booster available on the 770 and 880 models.

I don't care if everyone is allowed to shift or not as long as it is all the same. Some people think they can shift between gears without a power booster or TA, so if it is going to be allowed for some then the others should be able to grind gears too. 2 cents

I don't have T/A but don't mind pulling against people who use them. What makes some scratch thier heads is a plain ole M spinning out on a power track with 18.4 38's in second gear in FARM STOCK,yeah right! Can you say stroker much?

obviously that guy didn't want to get beat. he had an IH himself that was illegal with that engine. The regular H engine can be bored to accept the sleeves to make it a C169 without much trouble, but the block was illegal.

JD boys don't like the TA because they didn't have one, and they are just upset because mother deere manufactured antiques right up through 1959 when everyone else was making modern (6-cylinder) equipment. Boo hoo for JD green.

Most pulls allow a tractor with a TA but you have to chose what speed you want to use. Why should you be allowed to down shift while others can't?

Jerry,
Why shouldn't he be able to shift? If his tractor came from the factory with that part but that H didnt come from the factory with that engine he should've been able to use his TA and the other guy should been DQ'ed because he was clearly illegal. Honestly there is no common sense reason that he shouldnt be able to use it if his tractor came with it stock. Like someone else stated if you dont like it go out and buy a TA for your tractor. Then it will be illegal since it didnt come stock.

Why shouldn't he be able to use it? It was a factory product. If you want to shift a T.A. BUY one. Just like alot of pulls won't let Farmalls pull with press steel wheels. They didn't come from the factory with them. So us Red guys are getting screwed both ways. It just amazes me how many Ollies and Deeres came from the factory with pressed steel wheels. My 2 cents. Thanks for the rant.

Sounds like most of your clubs are letting things get too complicated. Our club has very simple rules. "BONE STOCK", just like it came from the factory. Very minimal overbores (allowing for an overhaul), no fancy pistons, T/A's must stay in one gear (which ever you started in), and there are some rules on hitch hieght and tire size. Our by-laws and rules allow for inspections if there is a protest. The club has been in existence about 7 years and we have had no major problems.

I don't know about Olivers, but the fact is that Deere "A" and "B" tractors were available from the factory with pressed steel wheels, so I don't know why anyone would complain about the legality of running them. There's no way to determine what wheels a tractor came with, so nobody can accuse any one with stamped steel wheels on a Deere of cheating. Deere never built a hub to mount stamped wheels on a "G", so that's a different story in pure stock classes. Shifting the TA doesn't bother me, as most tractors I've seen do it usually spin out after shifting.
