I also plan to pull the first time this coming weekend. I have a completely stock 1956 Allis Chalmers WD45 Diesel. I have brand new rear tires (14.9 x 28") that I am planning on running at 5 psi. I have my drawbar hook point 20" high (legal limit) and as close to the tractor as possible. The tractor with me on it weighs just under 4500# for the 4500# class. I have on one set of rear wts and no fluid. I plan to pull in 2nd gear. The tractor is a wide front. Any other advise on how to get a good pull for a rookie?

Watch the wc's and wd's in the 3500 lb class and
see how many of them are able to use 2nd. Also
carefully watch were there putting the weights. Your tractor has similar balancing to them. Air
up the tires to at least 15 psi. Don't worry about
the Farmall's they will only give you fits on loose tracks with their big tires and horsepower.
Most experienced Farmall pullers are cheating to the 70 plus horsepower side, however there know were near your torque levels. You will scare the heck out of them and only need to dyno about 50hp.
I pull a Oliver 88 diesel and are much more scared
of your Allis then a Farmall. I would try an electric fuel pump on your allis, you won't believe the hanging torque you will gain. Also eliminate to sediment bowl, it's quite restrictive. Also turn some RPM's, that Buda 230
diesel engine is even smoother than my Oliver Wakesha. If you use the muffler know one will have
a clue! Good luck

For 4500# run anround 10-12lbs of air. If its a transfer slead, give her all she got as soon as possible. If a tug pull give it just enough to get started and then be careful and work it easy. good luck, and dont mess with the farmalls

I agree with the guys recommending more air pressure in the rear tires. I pull a VAC Case and a C Farmall, most often at 3250lbs. I'll go down to 6lbs pressure on a REALLY soft track. Usually I'm at 8.5lbs to 9lbs. Don't know anyone who runs even that low in the 4500lbs class.

When i had my pulling tractor I always liked going first if you can, sometimes they ask for volunteer's, if they do jump on the chanch. This will give you a feel of the track and will not count as you hitch unless you want it to.

15 to 18lbs air, 1st gear , add throttle as it needs it till lugging harder. a wd will do well in this class you may need front weight with that drawbar hieght.

You'll probably have problems with getting the new tires to bite. New tires don't bite as well as used, weathered ones, because they're softer. Do everything you can not to break the tires loose. Maybe even run 20+ lb. air pressure, you don't want new tires to bag, they'll fold back the lugs.

Depending on the traction, the drawbar may need to be lengthened to transfer front end weight to the rear wheels. The heavy standard front may need more leverage to get it barely touching the ground by the time she spins out.

Bring the air pressure up to 9 or 10 lb. and pull in first gear. Or take an air compressor and buy two hooks.
