Hey Guys, I just picked up a Farmall Super M Diesel. I would like to get into the mild manored antique pulling, but would like some guidance. I am a machinist in centeral WI. After researching various aspects of different tractors, I thought the M was a great place to start. Is there anyone pulling M's out there with the crazy diesel engines?

I pull a 400 Diesel which has the same engine as your Super MD. With one set of rear wheel weights, a wide front and one 90 lb front suitcase weight my 400D with me on it weighs in at 7970#. I also weight it to 8965. I only pull it in these two classes. I haven't gotten any firsts yet but a lot of seconds. It pulls real good but in those two classes you will be pulling against tractors that have a lot more HP. The only advantage the 400 has over the Super MD would be the lower gearing you get from the TA and the tractor being a little longer due to the TA housing. The extra length helps keep the front down.

I don't have the MD but rather the 400D which is basicly the same tractor. You will have lots of low end tourqe but you will have to pull in a heavier wheight class than the M gas tractors and that is mostly due to the amount of weight you will have to stack on the back to lighten up the front end. I pull the 400D in the 8500 class and usually place in the top 3. Good luck and have fun. Also don't get to crazy and turn the fuel pump up much past about 7-8 degrees. It will wash your rings out
