will a stock John Deere H with only front suite-case weights,a strait crome stack,and new regular sized rear tires pull in the 2,300 - 2,800 class and do well?If not, any suggestions? any things GREAT

I'd go with a JD B, 1939-1946/47 years...you can get them light to pull in the 3500, and you can get 50 horse out of one fairly easy. I would pull it all the way up to the 5500/6000 in some cases. If you plan on pulling on cement, then you will want a late styled B. It has the slow low, and has 2nd if you need to get them heated up.

I have seen JD-H's in the Central Michigan area that do quite well in the 2750 lb. class (and even win the class), they have had the bore, head and intake work done, not sure of the stroke though. They are out of their league past this class.

Jack Guiger(sp) has an H that has .090 overs and 1/4" of stroke and he has around 25 horse.
