Our sincerest appreciation for all your thoughts and prayers. I am home briefly after watching Eric walk around the hospital room this afternoon, with a walker. Whether it was luck, his good sense, the Grace of God or all of the above, Eric is lucky to be alive. And thankfully, I was within 30 feet of him when it happened. He tore up his the muscles in his left thigh and severed a few blood vessels, missing the femerol artery by less than a quarter of an inch. No back injuries, no head injuries, no internal injuries. The biggest thing he hurt was his pride, although he says it happened because I had asked him to wash some dishes before he went outside to load the tractor!!!! Eric has loaded and unloaded tractors, combines, hicycles and most any other farm equipment since he was 12 years old so it's not like he didn't know what he was doing. To quote the definition of an accident "An unexpected and undesirable event, especially one resulting in damage or harm". The doctor says he will be in the hospital another 24 to 48 hours. He will not be able to put any pressure on his left leg for several weeks, and he's gonna be quite sore for some time to come. Of course once the muscles heal, he will be undergoing physical therapy for quite some time, which means sitting on a tractor will not be in the foreseen future. We are blessed to have some very special friends who are working to get The Bulldog checked out and ready to pull this Saturday in Pageland. New radiator, new throttle lever, new front nose/cowling, and new seat. AND, the plans are to have Eric there to watch for as long as he can stand it.
