Need to build a pulling track for sept pull at a local antique equipment show (Albany Days). I need to know the folloing.

Pulling Surface length 300'?
Track width

How do you prepare the track, tear the ground up and sheeps foot it back? The location that the track will be in is Brome grass right now. Just peel the grass off the week before and pull that way?

Your opionions appreciated.

Lynn Stallbaumer.

If you have the chance, peel it this spring. Rip it deep, disk it, then pack it tight. Do this a couple times over the summer. The day before the pull, rip it up and add water in if needed, then pack it tight. Lightly disk, water, and repack in the morning of the pull.

Or, just peel it and play. All depends on how serious you want to get. I've pulled on everything from blacktop to grass, and had fun doing all of it.

Lynn, I believe most sanctioned pulls call for a 30 foot wide track but with antiques you can get away with 25 feet. I've pulled on all kinds of tracks and I think if you peel back the sod and roll it it will be fine. You may want to lightly wet it down just to hold it together and keep dust down.
