Really, really stupid question

Hello everyone. Iam a cousin of Tom from Ontario. We're visiting and he took me to a tractor pull. I loved it and I'm trying to talk him into tweaking his 8N for pulling. The engine is juat half of a 239 flathead V8 and there's lots of good stuff around for it. I think The critical thing would be balancing the engine cause the V8's would go over 5000 rpm and this won't. I think we could pull in a 2500 to 3000 pound class and whip the tar out of these so-called garden tractors. This is all just thoughts because I have never pulled and Tommyboy is a long way from the days when he and Dougie the Druggie ran a Camaro all over Toronto for bucks. He's out ploughing right now and I don't think he'll see this so I'll check back a little later. Any thoughts on the 8N or is it a totally dopey idea?

While the N engine does share some similarities and a few parts with a flatty V8, it is not half a V8 by any stretch of the imagination. Block is completely different and the head is different.

Can the N be made to pull? Maybe. Working with an N the biggest problem one always has is running out of traction, not stalling the engine. This may be part of the reason one never sees an N at a pull.

Go for it! What do you have to lose but money and time. Should be lots of fun! Write back and tell how you did.

I think you can push the sleeves out and get bigger pistons to fit the block. I know a guy that did this to a 9n for more mowing hp. Good luck

The V8 conversion will add strength to the 8n, but I doubt seriously if anyone would allow you to pull it after you put it together. 80 hp can be obtained really really easily. Purchase an extra carcus tractor for transmission parts. If you do get to pull it you'll have trouble holding the front end down, unless you move up the weight classes, and ballast the snot out of the front. Later, Greg H.

A good Napa store could probably get you one,or find an equipment dealer nearby could probably help you out.

Melt it down. Sell it for scrap. Use it for erosion control. Take it to the mall and charge $5 a whack for the yuppies to beat it to smithereens with a sledge hammer.

Seriously, a 8N ain't a pullin tractor.

Tell Tommyboy to roll some more Doobie and dream on....you're overmatched with a Ford no matter how much HP you have. Did you take physics in highschool?

Moon still offers all their good flat head race parts in the latest cataloge. Might take some time but it is really sweat to trash the ones that have all the answers and say it won't. aRt
