Has anyone ever romoved the eyebrows off the intake ports on a JD B head? If so does it help or should it not be done? What else could I have removed or built up to help the air flow out. Thanks alot, by the way this will be used for pulling.

I have had some luck with reshaping the eyebrow. I have cut the brow back from the edge of the valve about 1/8" where the brow meets the valve seat, then taper the brow away from the valve more as you travel up the brow towards the combustion chamber. When the valve is at about .400 lift the brow should be about 3/8" away from the edge of the valve. You should also try to remove the big cast obstruction in the bowl area under the valve. Every little bit helps and good head porting is as effective as a big stroker crank and alot more cost efective.

they eyebrow or cyclone or swirl was added tocreate turbulence inside cylinder. this turbulence helps to keep fuel suspended in the air where it can be burned( especially with heavy fuels like kerosene).they still to this day are trying to add more turbulence to help with efficientcy( ever hear of a chevy vortech) okay that having been said it is proably restricting air flow, but I dont think you will be able to take a grinder and just remove it.consider relieving it a little adding more valve lift or if you want max output have some one weld that side of head flat and put in bigger valves. your horse power hours pergallon will go down but gross horse power will go up Paul

How does covering half the intake valve help power????? The eyebrow inhibits airflow and thus horsepower.

my cousin jeff has a machine shop and just "shapes it up" and cuts it on a 90 deg. angle with the head and polished and ported it, and he gets alot more power then the other tractors around and usually has less done to them. the only thing he does different is the eyebrow thing, and it is still there, juts straiter. When JD went to that, do u think it was just for fun? Most places improve over time. this is what I have seen, what have other people seen?
