I am rebuilding my motor with 409 Chevy pistons, but I ran into a snag. I need about a half inch longer than stock rod. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking to get it running for June pulls. Could I cut two sets of stock rods and lengthen them by welding then together? I have access to a wire welder.

you might have the pistons made for about the same cost as havig the rods welded .

Afriend of mine runs welded rods in a limeted pro.Ben in there for 5 years.Turns 5200Rpms with a turbo.I would say you are not welding them right.

An Oliver 80 rod is 1/2 inch longer than an M. It is not a canted cap, so cam clearance is a consideration. Also, the journal diameter is about 2 3/8 - you could offset grind your crank to meet your exact need.

if i were you i would get a crank that has been stroked an inch, like the other fellow suggested. i had a welded rod break once, and it's a good way to ruin your day.

if you know what you are doing, lenghten the rods, adding material to the inside of the beams, proper welding, will last as long as stock rods. cheaper than stroked crank.
