I have a Oliver Super 88 that will not get up to pto speed on the dyno. It will only get up to about 450. I've tried to set the the rpm up on the motor and it sounds like it's going to fly apart but it still won't get up to speed on the dyno. Is it possible that the govener is not kicking in or the governor spring is bad.

The engine itself is not coming up to speed? If that is the case check to make sure all of the linkage is adjusted right and properly connected. I had that problem once. Can you move the throttle control at the carb and bring it up? If so then i would suggest going into the governor and checking it. I had one doing the same thing and once I took the gov apart I saw that the thrust washer on the backside of the drive gear was gone and had been for a while. The gear was undercut about an 1/8 inch or so and not letting the RPM come up. I made a bronze bushing to take up the space and it run great!

Hope this helps! Feel free the email me if you have any questions.

Not sure if this has anything to do withit but does the PTo have a separate clutch to engage it? If so or something like one it could be slipping under load maybe.

The Super 88 should be the same as the 88 as in having live pto. It may be possible for the pto shaft to slip in the gear box. Good Luck!!
