Has anyone run into problems using automotive type, resistor plug wires on an otherwise stock ignition system on antique tractors (especially JD 2 cyl.)? I've heard people say not to use them, and just stick with the standard copper conductor wire. Any thoughts/comments will be appreciated.

Thanks

I have always used solid core wires w/stock ignition but went to the automotive wires w/my electronic ignition.

YOU ALWAYS USE COPPER CORE WIRE ON THESE TRACTORS!!The wires used for automotive are to keep raido noise down, and how do you do that you ask?,,,by using a carbon inpregnated fiber cord, your loosing current to the plugs with these type of wires,,,why does my car run fine than you ask?,,,,because the motor is set up to compensate for this loss and you the common joe doesn't notice the difference. For the guy that is running the CAR wires with his tractor, switch them and reset your carb and timming, and HANG ON WHEN YOU HOOK UP!

I have 8mm MSD wires. They were extras off a friends car that runs in the lower 5's in the 8th mile.Stock cam stock carb, gas manifold,M&W.090 pistons and she's right close to 60 hp.I had used these wires thinking that a hotter coil and electronic ignition may make the solid core wires arc but I do still have the others. What about opening up the gap more than .040?Thanks
