I can't wait till I get to pull it. (I also have some JD 70 questions)

I had my hopes up to pull my 70 JD in a local pull this weekend, but I couldn't locate the steel needed to build a front weight bracket and wheelie bars (I will be pulling a 620 lp though). After working on it off and on for two years I finally fired it off two days ago. I would like to know from someone that has a tractor like mine what I sould expect from it. I don't need any retards telling me it won't do anything because it is a John Deere.

The tractor is a John Deere 70. The stroke is 9 3/4 and the bore is 6 1/8. I have not weighted the tractor yet, but I have done the following to reduce weight: repalced the cast iron radiator with a smaller automotive unit, fabricated steel rear axel housing cover, repalced the rear cast wheel centers with nine bolt hubs and wheels. If I remember correctly the compression ratio for the motor is 11:1 or 12:1. It is currently running stock electronics and the stock carb off of my dad's 50 JD. I know that these two items are hurting the performance of the tractor and will be changed later. The current rear tires on the tractor are 15.5-38 Good Year Tractor Torque (wavey lug and uncut).

My questions are:

1. What sould I expect from my current set-up? (I was told I sould be able to run in third gear in light classes)

2. What type of electronics should I invest in for it, and who should I have rework a carb for it?

3. What future upgrades should I consider?

Make certain deonation due to a lean mixture from any component in that fuel system doesn't pound a bearing flat, break rings or burn a hole through an aluminium piston. That is if the high compression and too much advance doesn't do it 1st. A pointless distributer and a MSD 6 ignition will help jump the gap with such high compression. The MSD will slightly reduce the timing advance needed for max power too. It's a long way across that combustion chamber.

what fuel do you run in it? I would guess you should have around 110 hp. if it's right

At full compression I have to run 110 octane. I have only run this tractor with the compression releases open and on pump gas. I was told that it sould be able to hold it's own aginst a stock 4020 JD, however I don't know how true this is. If I still had the pto on this tractor I could put it on my friends dyno. I can't wait to see what she will do. If I ever decide to redo this tractor it will get a 7.5 bore block. Has anyone seen any G's or 70's with a 7.5 bore and 9.75 stroke? I'm just wondering what this combination is capable of.

I would be interested in the HP from this setup. I think 110 hp may be a little optimistic, but I would be interested in knowing the horsepower out come.

depending on your fuel and how much compression you have..it should be in there.
