how do you put a tack on a tractor with a mag

You can also get a tach that works off the alternator.I believe you can buy them at an A.C. dealer.

Run it off the kill post on the mag, or if it doesn't have one, run a wire out the side off the points. As long as you use a tach for points type ignition and can figure out how many times the points open and close for every full cycle it should work. IE, on JD u may have to set tach for 4 cyl to get it to work on some of the 2 cyl tractors. Your cheap Wally World Sun tach should work on the mag.

If you don't care to pay out the butt you can put a tach that runs off a sensor on the flywheel but they are pretty expensive.
