As a rule, does a motor thats been stroked take more ignition timing than when it was stock stroke? I understand piston speed will be faster but it will "dwell" longer at TDC so what would be the timing requirements.

I think less but make your own decision. I would however start it the first time with very little advance. Bad things seem to happen after one has ran backwards. Also use a seperate switch for starting and the ignition. It will save your starter a lot of heat and toil if you get it spinning over before you swith on the ignition.

personally,I tune a Farmall M with 7 1/2 inch stroke and I don't use a timing light on it.I just open the throttle wide open and turn the distributor until the engine runs smooth and does not sound like it is laboring
