I have a h farmall that make 80 hp has a cotton picker low gear set in it I have been pulling it with 16.9 by 38 cut tires I can not use them any more as the rules have changed. Thay are mounted on 16 ince press steel rims What tire would work better a 15.5 by 38 or a 14.9 by 38 can i use the 16 ince rims? Will the lower side wall of a 15.5 change the gear in the rearend more so i might move up in the weight class I pull 3500 to 5000 now . Thanks for any help.

Mike, you had to know that someone would ask! How did you get 80hp out of an H??? I have one and I'm interested in what you did.

The 14.9 38 is a taller tire and will give you a bigger area of surface contact than the 15.5s. I have just purchased a set of 14.9 38s for an M farmall for that reason. go with the 14.9s!

We ran 15.5's and 14.9's on 16 inch rims on a 180 hp. M,but they didn't hook up to good .Went to 18.4's and guess what? They don't hook up either. Now we put the 15.5's on a 80 hp. H,they worked good .Put the 14.9's on it and they worked better. We pulled in 3rd gear and the tires were cut and on 16 inch wheels.
