Is there any way to turn up the pump on a J.D. R without having to take it in and have it done? Thanks

You can turn the pumps up with no problem of causing overfueling in the stock engine. You will however have to pull the bridge assembly to adjust for the governor spring control spring. It takes some doing to get it set right, but its fairly simple. Drop me an e-mail and I will fill you in in better detail. Gpower

An "R" actually has two pumps, one for each cylinder, rather than one pump supply both. I believe that fuel delivery can be increased fairly easily, but if the engine is weak at all, you might end up overfueling it and doing some damage. The right thing to do would be to remove the pump and nozzles and send them in to be checked and calibrated, and perform a compression test at the same time. Anything other than that would just be a shot in the dark, and might decrease performance. If you're planning on working the tractor hard in high temps, you might also run into an overheating problem if you turn it up a bunch, as the thermosiphon cooling system was about maxed out in the "R".
