I currently pull a Farmall 560 diesel and was thinking about getting another tractor that was lighter and that I could pull our antique classes with (1957 or older)...and I happened to think of a Cockshutt 40 or 50 (you don't see many around eastern Oh), I don't know a whole lot about these tractors and was wondering if they would make a good puller in the 4500-5500 classes and what kind of power-engine mods can be had...thanks a lot

Forget about a Cockshutt 40/50. You need to get an Oliver. Their are alot more parts available for them in Eastern Ohio. You can get 500 + cubes out of a Super 77,770,88,880. If your pulling a 560 why not get an H or an M or somthing?

well super 88 diesel puller, two of my best friends both have 88s and nothing against them, but I want something different, and btw....even though I've always been IH, I hate H'S lol...M's are ok, but i want something that'll get in 4500, and once again, something a little different.

You'll have to diet a 40 pretty good to get it in 4500. You can get it there but may not have a lot of moveable weight.

are you running a speed limit? as long as you're not low gear only cockshutts are good pullers. they've just got too slow of a low gear. you can get about 400 c.i. out of a 40 or 50 motor. A d-19 crank in a 40/50 motor with a few other mods will give you 80 h.p. easy.

JR, I have a Cockshutt 40 which I pull in 4500 and up Division 3. It has had a lot of engine work done to it and has a big carb on it (Div. 3 legal). The tractor is in very good shape and there is a picture in the for sale ads under Div. 3 pulling tractor. The rims on it are not mine and do not match it but I have 2 sets of matching rims that go with it 18-34 and 18-38's.
