I'll admit, I haven't been around a tractor pull in 25 yrs. I'm curious. Tractors like IH M's, WD Allis's, and A JD's can't be built near as heavy as the modern machines. So how do you soup 'em up and pull the bejeebers out of "em without breaking something? No snapped axles, or stripped gears? Just wondering!

Actually it,s the other way around, the new tractors are not built as heavy as the old ones. An example is a 60 JD came with 41 hp. It has axles as big as a 4020 or early 4430 that has over a 100 hp. The 60 weighs about 6000 lbs. A new 40 hp tractor probably won't weight half that. The old ones were built to last with lots of iron and big drive train parts. I would not want to tie an old 40 hp tractor to a new 40 hp tractor together in a tug of war, and have money on the new one. Just a few things I could think of. Ken.
