We bought a ragged out, stuck, "H" to build into a puller. We plan to pull it on a non-sanctioned circuit that is very liberal with the rules for "stock" tractors. We are not asking for your secrets, just the things you all know to make a strong puller. We plan to put all new parts in the engine, so what will fit? More displacement, head change or modify., etc. Thanks for your help! Mickey

THANKS CHAD----- If we put 350 pistons and sleeves, what do you do to the head? Will the high dome pistons achieve the desired compression, or do we need to mill the head also? Anybody else got ideas. Please jump in and give your input with Chad's. We appreciate you guys helping us get into this.

There is alot you can do with a H. I pull "Farm Stock" and modified with a 54 SH and a 50 H. Depending on your rules, if you are allowed to run only first gear, I would get a aftermarket 350 sleeve and piston kit, note, you will have to make or buy wrist pin bushings for the H rods to adapt the 350 pistons to the H rods. I have built a SH like this, it makes 46 hp. Or, you could go with a stroker engine. Did you know you could build a 70+hp H with all IH parts? To start with a larger bore engine, you can bore the H block out to 3-13/16 and not have to put in aftermarket sleeves, you would still be running on the original block surface. If you go bigger on the bore you will have to install aftermarket sleeves. We have a H that has been built as big as you could go (in my opinion) it is 4.125 bore with 6.25 stroke. It is strong, but having trouble with the block sealing the head. Anyway, You could build a 70+ hp H with all IH parts! how? I'll tell you, This engine is 240 cu.in. It has a 3-13/16 bore, with a 5.25 stroke. I am using 806 lp pistons, with a 1 inch stroker crank. I had about 3500 in the whole engine, and I did all the clearance work on the block, rods and camshaft. It is a solid 3rd gear tractor up to 4250lb, the I have to go back to second gear in heavier classes. You could go bigger on the engine cubic inch just depends on what you want to do. Lemmons can build a mean open class engine for the right price, they are not cheap though. hope I helped you some! good luck
