I was looking at some of the rules that the boys in Mich. have. Why do they require fenders? I am sure they have a good reason, but I can not figure it out.

Thanks for the info BUDD

As one puller friend of mine said, "If I fall off my tractor @ 3.5 mph, I deserve to get run over". But seriously, what good is a fender rule if there are no strength specifications? How do you test them - throw a 350 big guy against them to see if they hold up? I can see where this can open up a new can of worms! Took my stock Cockshutt 50 RC fenders off at the only pull I was at this year so I could throw an extra 60 pounder up front. I heard there was a little flack about that, even though there was no fender rule for the class...But I guess they'd be OK for the open mph classes - at least something between you an the wheels...

I know nobody will like to hear this, but I think they install rules that make people who win alot change something, such as fenders, it could be the people that were winning at those clubs didn't use fenders and maybe the rule committee thought it would force them to not make weight, just a thought, as alot of older tractors didn't come with fenders, ot they were an option

It's a safety item. In the unlikely event that someone was to start falling off of their tractor the fenders may be able to keep the driver aboard. If not, the fenders could keep the driver from falling directly under the tires.

I am not 100% sure but my understanding is that it is for insurance reasons. Although there are still alot of pulls in Michigan that still don't require them. I have a homemade set on one tractor that weigh less than 5 lbs. each, so it really is not that big a deal!
