What is the cheapest way to get about 70 or 80 horsepower out of a '39 farmall M with a gas head shaved and ported and polished with bigger valves, dry element filter, electronic ignition, MSD box,and a Super M kit in it. Need to know all the details of bore, stroke, rods, pistons, etc.. THANX TO ALL

Hello there! Depending on if you have a high dome, or a m&w style high compression pistons you should be able to achive 70-75hp from your engine. I built an engine that was a 4 1/8 bore, high dome pistons (M&W) It was mostly head work, and carb tunning though. As far as porting and polishing, big valves etc, I have done that to a relitively stock engine and have little gain on hp. Milling the cyl head to build compression is a good start, How much did you take off the head? Just an example, I took a M head and milled it 150 thousandths and broke through the head. Too thin. Start by checking the compression, a 283 M with about 180-200psi compression will make 70-75 hp. You could go with a copper head gasket. Make it about 20-25 thousandths thick, and that will help alot. I can build copper gaskets if you are interested. Hope I helped you some. Good luck.

75.00 ea + shipping for a M farmall. I have a few on hand, but I would like to custom build these gaskets for each individual tractor. Bacily. the info I would need is the bore size, and how thick would you like the gasket. Thicker gasket, less compression, thinner gasket, more compression. I can also build deck plates as well. I can build those pretty reasonable too!! if interested, call me 574-893-7437 or Email me at hpuller@hotmail.com thanks chads
