Length of strait pipe on Farmall Super M

I recently bought a '52 Super M that I am going to do some novice pulling with this summer. (I just started getting into this last year with my Farmall H) I have a 3' long chrome strait pipe for the Super M, but I would like to know what would be the best lenght to cut it down to, as I think 3' is too long. The engine has been recently rebuilt with 4 1/8" sleeves and stepped pistons. The rest of the machine remains fairly standard stock Super M. I once read that a good way to judge the correct strait pipe length is to put a painted pipe on the machine, and go work the tractor hard (ie. pulling a plow in heavy soil of something similar)see where the paint buns off the pipe the most and cut it off about 2" above that spot. That spot is supposedly where the exhaust scavenges. Unfortunatly, I can't do this exact procedure, so I'm hoping someone can give me a good idea of what to run.
Thanks

I've been told that the super M was made in 53 and 54 only.. Is that not correct?
