I restored a massey harris 444 and pulled it for the first time the other day and got third with it BUT!! the hand clutch slipped on it when it got into a hard pull and stopped pulling. Does anyone know what I can do to it? Could I have it rebuilt with a button clutch maybe? Any help would be great because this tractors motor is strong. Thanks

i had a 44 with a hand clutch that was used for your live pto .i cleaned mine and replaced the springs anb also made sure the balls that the pressure plate rolled on were free and did not stick. you can switch rearends with one without the live pto if you do not need it for field work

pull the cover and then pull the bolts out of the preasure plate [6] i think then remove the spacers from the bolts and put back in this will lock it togeather so it will not slip or disingage at all. but if you use the hand clutch the do what 44d and les said .fun pulling a winner got a 44special that kicks a== 10 pulls 5 first 3seconds 2thirds

I have a 44 with a hand clutch, and we just made a strap to lock it solid when pulling. If you want to use the clutch remove the cover and 3 bolts and your ready to go.

I don't think a button clutch setup would work. I rebuilt one in the past. I had to make shims to tighten the clutch up even with new disks as the metal had worn over the years. I had it in and out 5 times before I got just right.

I have a few shims leftover of you need them. the clutch disks are hard to find.
