I want to build an antique pulling tractor. I want it to be around 5500lbs because that is the most common class around here. I need at least 100hp.

What is the best tractor to built for the least amount of money? What will the total motor cost me to get 100 hp?

460 gas with c 301 and 806 carb, get whatever a gas 806 which is like 94 but you could reach 100 with tune up.

Maybe look in to a dennys engine set up. I know people have had alot of problems with what he sells, but for the price for the crank, pistons and rods, and make these parts better, I belive you could build a 100 hp M Farmall for around 4500. A good set up I have worked with is a 7 in stroke, with 4 3/8 bore? (454 chevy pistons) This engine made 110 hp easily at 540rpm.

Loaded question here. It's really up to you what type of tractor you like. Family Tradition is right. A Minny U or UB is pretty easy to get a 100 horse out of. Find a G crank to run in one and your set.

I agree with these guys a U Moline is excellent, other good ones are an 88 Oliver or Super M. Those are the leaders around here.

100hp out of a moline might be able to be built from a U for around 1500 in parts + whatever the tractor costs. all you do is pull a g crank out and put it in a U, and switch the heads to better ones then the ge series, and this will be around 80-90hp area. a Farmall M can be done with switching the head, and getting the crank stroked, and popping the sleeves out and finding a set of pistons to run in the block, since they are dry sleeved. an oliver is 6 cylindered and alot lighter then the M or U. you could just do a little bit of polish work and boring, and you prolly would get around 100, but I dont' know since I have never really checked into them. If you plan on building the tractor bigger in the future, the ollie would no doubt be a better choice. Most people use the 88's.

I was wanting to know the cost to get 100 horsepower from different tractors. After watching and talking to pullers, I think I need at least 100hp and I want to know the best way to get there. Not 80-90. Do you know what you are talking about or do you just answers because you like to?
