Does anyone here still read the hook magazine?
I'm about ready to let my subscription run out.
It just doesn't have anything that interests me anymore. It seems like all it is is event coverage. I really don't care who won the 5500
div II class 4 states away from me. I haven't seen a good tech article for a long time. These people need to pick up a good car mag like Hot Rod
and see what it is like. The reason I subscribed was to help make me a better puller. I haven't seen anything in there to do that for several years. And I have subscribed since the beginning.

Hook readers---All pullers have to be backyard engineers, document some of your ideas say for instance wheelie bars for O-88,M Farmalls,J.D, and etc, I bet Dana sure would print some of your article . When I go to pulls I photogragh an item if I run across something I could use on my tractor, and most guys are glad to share there work. I'd like to see some ideas on increaseing flywheel weight on John Deeres. So we pullers need to share some of our ideas, even if it's a radator cap that screws on backward. Gman two cents worth

I agree on the "local" pull stats deal, but I would like to point out that they must cater to subsribers with varying levels of experience and participation in the sport. What's old hat and boring to some is new light to others. AGCO Puller's post about them having a hard time getting anyone to send in good tech articles should not be a surprize to anyone who has pulled tractors for more than a day or two. As a rule, winning pullers are the tightest lipped bunch of people I have ever been around. Those that finnish in the back half are usually willing to talk a little but who wants advise from them unless you don't have a clue what you are doing. I think this is Hook Magazines problem. An artical by Joe XXXX the unknown, non-winning puller, would have about the same interest as one in Inside Winston Cup on how to win at NASCAR racing,... Written by Dick Trickle.

Here's what you guys need to do...at the next pull have somone take lots of pictures and then have your statstician submit the results of all the weight classes. When you see your name there in print you'll feel differently about the value of your subscription. Of course, if you didn't place then your subsription is worthless.

Personally i could care less about my name in the hook magazine, but maybe thats the kinda thing zippo gets excited about, and who knows what else. I do agree with everyone else, the hook needs to get more interesting with tech specs on certain tractors and some machine shop info. Other then that it still is a good magazine for things like advertising.

I enjoy reading my Hook magazine to see who is doing well with my color tractor five states away, there is alot of good info in the adds, and of course it is cool to see your name and picture in a national magazine. But of course someone still has to write the article.

I agree about too much statstics in the Hook. Even if they would go to a few pulls and feature one or two of the tractors in detail. Plus maybe some of the top machineshops and engine builders.

I've talked with them before and they want us to
send them tech or build up ideas and they will print them. P.S. take lots of pictures.
I'm working on a a-c build up for under $2500
complete with dyno results. I think there is huge interest in this type of tech articles, much like
Hot Rod magazine. If that went over well we could
do a popular one like Farmall M or Oliver 88.
Lemmons tractor service offers a Sportsman package
for m's for about $2500. What's in it and what do you get? anybody else feel this way?

That is what I'm talking about. I know other pullers don't want to give out their secrets, but the hook needs talk to the people that offer services to pullers. That way a puller can better decide who's services to use. Hot Rod does features on crate engines and engine kits all the time. I like to do most of my own work, but you can usually pick up some good info in articles like this. They can tell us whether or not some of these hokey gadgets advertised actually work.
Such as, do roller rocker arms really do anything
on a 1200 rpm engine? "The Puller" magazine never had any trouble finding material for tech articles. Neither did "pullin power" for that matter. I'm not just talking engine stuff either.
I'd like to see more stuff about the dynamics of pulling.

I have to agree with you. I just sent my new subscription in and dont know why. When i first started gettin them they gave tech tips. The had certain tractors they gave info about. And who cares who won 5500 lbs. class 4 states away.
