Have just built an L with 4 7/8 bore and propane head. Wishing for electric start right now. Have had it running with the arm strong starter, just about killed me. Almost impossible to roll over. Any suggestions, for easy starting? spark plugs with compression release? Thanks, wore out

pound for pound, you can make more horses out of one of these than you can the dc case. you can put it on a diet and get to 5500 with no problem. long stroke engine, gobs and gobs of toruqe. i have pulled from 5500 to 8500 with excellent results. be sure to keep the chains in the rear end tight. email me if you need to know anything specific

I had one that we pulled in 8500 lb class. It had a set of 18*4*30 tires and it pulled great. It was stock bore and stock stroke with a lp head. Never pulled any rpms off of the old girl. Hard to balance her though. Make your hitch as short as possible and the weight bracket long as you can on the front.

My son and i just finished rebuilding a 49 case LA. the engine was trashed and we found another block rebuilt it with a propane head. It seems to be real strong, we have only pulled it once, we will pll some more this wenter and post the results. Good luck. TR

Have saw more LA's pull, probably due to elec start available on them. They have a lot of torque.
