Hey, How did you solve the gear problem after raising your cam in your big H motor. Do you know of any cutters around for the cam drive and the crank gear. Any problems after the furnace braising with setting new holes for the cam.

Hey Chads,
H body and trans and rearend. 350 block now no engine modifications stock 175 Have a dyno and tune carb before each pull depending about altitude or weather conditions. strong division 3 in my area from 4100 to 5100 lbs working on the 225 block, another 350. Sorry for not telling you about the 350 block off the bat. your big Motor in your H, H block or 350? Have you noticed any stress problems with your drive shaft at the coupler going into trany? Seems that those 4 little bolts would be the first to go under a load once a person starts getting those horses up over 100.

Cam is still in stock location in the block. What are you having trouble with? Rods not clearing the cam? Maybe I can help. Chads

rods were hitting the cam on 5 1/4 stroke but minor touch ups on cam and even a little block grinding so the rod bolts cleared solved the problem. current 225 inch. future 6 inch stroke seems to pose a clearence problem on a stock cam and block sidewall, can the rods be ground to meet clearence requirements without loosing strength? Thanks

Do you have an H? I will assume yes, so here goes. It is alot of work swinging 6 inches of stroke in an H, lots of clearence work. In some places, more than should be. I recomend staying around 5-3/4 stroker for a good reliable H. I have 3 tractors, one with a 5.25 stroke, one 5-3/4 stroke, and one 6-1/4 stroke. I am regreting building the 6-1/4 engine, like any other project, still working the bugs out. The other 2 engines, both still have the stock rods. 5-3/4 is as far as a stock rod will let you go. Had to do alot of grinding, and clearence work. But it holds together very well with no problems. I ran a 806 lp,high altitude .060 pistons which is a 3.852 bore. Makes 270ci, with a very good cyl head makes 105 hp. very reliable, Starts well, does not get hot. Hope this helps ChadS

To build a 100 hp, 264, it is gonna take alot of compression, with the right M&W pistons that have that small wrist pin, If you have a 4 inch bore M you may have a big pin. The 281 engine you have would be the right piston pin diameter. I would say it would take 300psi to to do it. If I used Alcohol, after the modifications, Yes, I could make it well over 100. Most clubs, and local pulls don't allow it. i can't see why? ChadS

Just wanted to let you know the results of the M I was working on. 75hp at 540, and peak hp is 100hp. When I started it was 65hp and peak Hp was 80. Peak hp rpm was at 1300rpms. These are the results, no BS. That is 10hp increase at 540 and a 20hp increase at 1300rpms. What do you think? ChadS

I am working on a M right now, It has 4-1/4s high compression pistons. I am installing a copper head gasket, .020 thick, and shaving the head (8060D).100. It was 70hp when I started working on it. It had 150psi at cranking speed. I am not touching the wrist pins. Just head work, governor spring, Carb modifications, changing fuel form 94 octane, to gas and ethanol mix, and copper head gasket. The pistons have a .375 step on the top of the piston. In the shape of the compression chamber. My goal is somewhere beteween 80-85 at 540. if it is, the engine will lug down up to 90-95 at 400 pto rpm. I belive that this engine could be alot stronger if I changed the wrist pin location. when I am done I will let you know how much hp I got from it. NO BS Numbers, Just the truth, I am taking a few pictures this time with my digital camera, I hope I can learn how to send some pictures to you, I am working on it. So, far I've lowered the head .152 thousandths I am checking piston, valve clearence as well. Anyway, thats what I,m doing to the project M, should have it done by Sat. Like I said, I am not going to be dishonest about the hp. How many hp do you think it will make? Right now, your guess is as good as mine. Later ChadS

I have a 53 Super M that I have done the following to:

4 1/8" Add power pistons
450 lp head(completly gone over, new everything),
electronic ignition, C81AC plugs with Accel wires,
carb and gov. has been reworked, venturi from 806 gas
cam has been replaced(don't know the specs., but Bullett Cams did the work), 115 octane fuel.

I did a compression check and it read 245-250psi. Any idea what the comrression ration is and your best guess on hp. We took the pto out so no way to check.
Any help would be appreciated.

Somewhere around 85-85. 12.5to1, somewhere in that area. How much dome is on the tops of the pistons? ChadS

Chad, where at in Indiana are you? I live in New Castle IN. Where can I get a copper head gasket? And what is your opinion on the longer rockers? I have a 52 M that I pull. It is pretty strong a 75 hp but getting butt kicked by the six cylinder 460's. About ready to sell mine and go to a 460. I just hate to give up on the old girl. Yes these are Rushville 460's, if you know what I mean. Thanks Donnie
