Make Super C more competitive?

I've got a stock 51 IH super C which runs fairly good with the exception that I have to play with the choke sometimes. Pulling in 3500 weight class I'm in the middle of the pack. Assuming I have the weights properly placed (front comes up only at very end of pull), and clevis height is optimal, tires are older but great tread running at about 9 lbs, what can I do to that engine to make it stronger? I'm also trying to figure out what I can do to get it down to 2750 weight class. Weighs 3265 with me (160) on it. Tires are empty and still has all hydraulics on it as well as flat pulley. Any ideas?

you could bolt on a 230 head.eletronic ingnition,12.4 /36 rear rubber.loose all of your hydrolics.get a strait c non hyd. draw bar.bolt that on.unbolt your narrow front end,and turn it around.this will put your weight out foward more.(this works well).make sure you use the intake and carbfrom the 230.remove the choke plate from the carb.feed the fuel to this thing. i used the gas tank and the mounting bracket from the farmall A. take off all of the charging system.run off a 12 volt bat.this should get you in the game. good luck. My Farmall data book lists the Super C shipping
weight at 2900lbs. It lists the regular C at 2,780lbs. So we gained 120lbs with the hydraulics.
Your at about 3,100lbs now, these weights were dry
,i.e. no fluids but it seems like your still about 100 lbs heavier than stock. At 3100 the unstyled WC A-C's sting hard, even tired 201 cu inch ones. Do you have a 3,000 lbs class their? Also the Farmall 230 used a 3-1/4" bore and 6.8:1 CR compared to your 3-1/8" bore 6.0:1 engine. If you could bump that to 8.0:1 or better and Rpm it you be close, hi-altitude heads or something. I pull (just a couple of times so far) two super C's. If you remove the 2 pt. hitch and find a standard drawbar, you know off about 2 hundred pounds. The only thing I did was put different plugs in them, not D21's, they were...D15Y's maybe??? They are longer and get down into the mix better, but they are more expensive and foul easy. I pull a 51 and a 53. The 53 is in a lot better looking shape and has been rebuilt a few years ago. The 51 I got a few months ago, and the only thing I did to it was a tuneup and new plugs, and a straight pipe-it needs rings and burns oil bad. I pulled it out of a barn not running when I got it, took it to a pull 2 weeks later and it out pulled my other one! The 51 w/me 160 lbs. weighs 3720 and the 53 weighs 3780. the 51 out pulls the other one by a couple of inches every time--Don't know why! Good luck.

IH made a 153ci engine that will bolt in to your
C. I know they used them in combines. As far as weight, remove everything that isn't necessary for pulling. Get rid of the hydralics, they hurt your power. If it has fast-hitch, take it off and build an adjustable rigid drawbar. Get rid of the belt pulley too. If that is not enough, put stamped steel rims all the way around. Make a lighter seat bracket without the spring and shock.
Take off the air cleaner and get a motorcycle filter that clamps on to the carb. Anything that looks too heavy and can be replaced with a lighter homemade part, do it.
