You will want to make sure you have good tires with good tread. All the power in the world won't do much good wothout any traction.

If you have one of newer "b"s 1947 and up and they make you pull in low gear you don't need more power. You will be competive in the 4500 lb class ONLY if you are pulling against truly stock tractors. These days that is pretty hard to find. As a B with cast rear wheel weighs about 4200 it will be difficult without major changes to get in a lighter class. Russ

Unless you are planning on pulling in the 3750 and lighter classes, you would be better off using an A to pull with Good Luck

The stroke is were you are going to gain the most hp. .090 & .125 over pistons will only gain you a few hp. New aluminum pistons will reduce the weight of the reciprocating parts and the rod length will determine your compression.

I am a firm believer of the ol' saying that any tractor can be beaten on any day/night regardless of hp/performance (within limits). With that said, it has been my experience and opinion that a JD B is not the best choice in models when it comes to pulling. Unless you stay in the really light classes, you are going to be facing unstyled/styled JD A and other higher hp tractors. Obviously you are going to invest some money into you project maybe the thoughts of a different model should be considered.

Hey Gary how has your pulling season been going? If you are asking if I was pulling against tractors like the Big Voodoo Daddy, Hutson's W-40, or Wein's A/70. No, I was up against a variety of local strong running tractors (Farmall John Deere, Oliver, Ford, and Massey)

Don't misunderstand my post on how I did. I am not the type of person to boast on the results of a pull. I haven't posted much the last couple of months because I have been working away from home. I just remembered how much of an a$$hole the Pete charater was and still is.
