I have converted both of my IH tractors from 6v to 12v systems. My H has a Delco Remy distributor and my M still has the factory IH distributor. I bought a standard 12v coil for my H and an Accel high performance coil for my M, since I pull it. I have put around 25hrs on my H and have not had any problems with points or condensors, but several people will tell me they will burn up. I was wondering what I need to do to do it right or will they be fine?

They will only burn up if you leave the ign on and walk away for an hour or so. The points don't know the differance in 6 or 12. They do burn up if they have a constant load (such as the coil) for an extended period of time. For a little hotter spark use a coil that doesn't have a resistor built in.

I doubt you will have any trouble. Considering that a 12 volt coil is merely a 6 volt coil with added resistance, the points will not see much difference. For what it's worth: you probably would have gotten a bigger bang if you would have installed an electronic ignition module instead of the points, and used a regular 12 volt coil.

Anyone know where to get the electronic module to convert from points.
