Anyone have any experience with bolt on domes? How much smaller than cylinder diameter should they be, how close to valves can you get? What type of aluminum to use? Type of bolts? Bolt pattern? Thanks

I'd agree with Tim C on welded aluminum. A steel dome and or bolts would have a different expansion rate and would loosen eventually.

I know of an AC WD with welded on domes. Worked very well. If you use aluminum you would probably want t6 aircraft alum. It would also give you the chance to design the floor of the combustion chamber to produce the max swirl and allow you to retard the timing a little if the dome reflects the shape of the combustion chamber so the flame front does not have to travel up and over and around things and there is less space it has to travel.

bolt on dooms, we tried all types of metal but steel is only thing to use. we have made them to fit right up in the head to about 1/4 of valve travel. it will up your compression sometime more than you want so you may have to play with this. they do help but don't use a low temp. metal it will go out the exhaust, that expereince talking!!!!thanks
