I'm gonna be helping a friend build his F-20 into a Div. III puller for the next season. Most of my building experience has been limited to Allis WC/WD's. We were thinking about putting in IH 1066 pistons(about 4 1/4 think), but past that we haven't decided on much more. What have you guys seen done in the past, what worked and what didn't? Bores? Strokes? Pistons? Tires? Head work? What are the points in the engine that most people overlook that could get a few extra HP? And to make is last as long as possible what is generally the weakest pt in the engine and any way to strengthen it? Thanks for any help you can give me.

My Dad put together two F-20's that had about 80hp with stock stroke - they ran hundreds of pulls without problems. D-21 pistons and sleeves work well, and can be machined to raise compression. The F-30 rocker trick mentioned in the other posting was also used. The IH 414/436/466 sleeve and piston may also work well - bore is slightly larger and there should be plenty to machine. If you are interested, I have a set of 414's - can get you dimensions if you need.

On our f-20 we put pistons and sleeves out of a 4020 jd. Another simple way to gain about 5 horse is to put f-30 rocker arms on it. Our f-20 pulls at 76 on the dyno. My guess would be the weekest link would be the crank. That's about all the info I can give you, maybe somebody else could share their secrets. Good luck with your puller.
