I recently purchased a Farmall H, of which I intend to use for tractor pulling. I have been unable to determine the date of it yet, but with some more research I may be able to. The tractor was completely restored (2) years ago and it was done by a man with a machine shop. They bored out the heads and placed larger performance pistons in the tractor, but they did not place a larger cam or rockers in the tractor. I just bought new 13.6-38 pulling tires and placed them on new 11 inch rims. I also was able to find an updraft airplane carb with K&N filter. I am going to pull the tractor this weekend for the first time and I was wondering how anyone felt I would do. I am nervous about the tractors performance. Can I start in 3rd gear in the 4500 lb. class? Also when it was restored, there were all new gears placed in the transmission and they put an M size manifold on the tractor. Let me know what you think.

Dedicated to M.L.

I have a M that is setting at around horsepower and it has a hard time taking second gear in the 5500 pound class. Unless I find a track that is rather loose, I stay in first gear. I know a guy that has an H with a 350 motor, bored out, not stroked and he stays in first gear most of the time and does pretty good. Good luck!

Ok I give up. How did the put a "M" size intake on an H? The carb would not line up with govener. What style of govener are they useing with the airplane carb? 3rd gear is totally out of the question if the motor is not stroked, ALOT.
Unless your going to pull on a pure sand track. We've got an H with a 1/2 stroker and 4" pistons and can't pull 3rd gear with 14.9*38 tires in 4500lb class. Must be doing something wrong. My 2 1/2 cents worth.

I dont know what size pistons you got in it but if you take out the sleeves(before you had it bored out)standard pistons out of a 350 engine fit in nicely and do alot for your power

Where did you find the updraft airplane carb? What did you pay for it and does it make a difference in the horsepower and response?

Cody Adgent had one for sale a few weeks back. They are easy to tune and flow very well at low and high rpms. Will feed just under 400 cubes at 35 to 4000 easy.
