I have a choice of two engines to build for my H: the origional all fuel motor, or an 300 motor. I am planning a sleeve removal and stroke at the least. What are some of the best combo's in use? I'm planning to build mine this winter. Thanks for all replies.

We pull a 39H in the 4000,4500 and 5500open classes. It currently has 289ci. We were going to go up to 326c.i. but it is costly. It will hold 94hp on the dyno. We run 16.9x38 cut tires with a W4 ring and pinion. It beats some very good 88 Olivers with up to 426 c.i in the 4500 class. In the 5500 I go down to 1st gear. On a good track where it is balanced good it will usally pull with any M or 88 there.

The W4 or I4 ring and pinion will increase ground speed by around 15% over the stock H unit in each gear. It required no modifications to the rear end.

What kind of classes do you intend on pulling in?? I have all sorts of specs for a H pulling tractors. Can get parts as well. A good economical engine would be a 240ci. 3-13-16bore with a 5-1/4 stroke. Use stock rods, and 806 pistons. Will make 70-75hp pretty easy. Light clearence work would have to be done. If you intend on going with more stroke than 5-1/4, more clearence work is required. I would recommend, if you are building it yourself, to try the 240ci. Most of the clearence work is done to the rods and cam. There is some grinding to do on the block. But it is not too bad. Just my opinion, ChadS

Here we go again with the high hp H. 75hp out of 240ci. engine no way more like 50. Don't tell these people this kind of story it just builds false hopes. Snuffy's right ac cheaper and better to work.

No false reality. I am not going to argue with anyone over what kind of power an engine is making or could make. I've built them, if it is difficult to belive, that is up to you. Chads

Chad has a problem with numbers. When anything involves numbers, he lies.

Sounds like pretty big talk coming from somebody who's afraid to post their real handle here.

I am running a 3-3/4 x 4-3/4 (210 cid). I am running 9.5:1 compression. I had 65hp at 540 pto and 70 at 610 pto, back when I fist checked/tuned it. I have since added 1.85:1 roller rockers, but haven't re-dynoed. I can run second in the 3500-4000, and low in the 4500 without running out of power. I need to get on a dyno to check the progress of the rockers, I can tell a real difference. I am running a gasoline H head with slightly bigger valves and very minor port cleanup. I don't think that 75hp out of a motor that has 1/2 inch more stroke than mine is too unrealistic. Just keep in mind that your 240 cid H is about 100-200 cid less than most of the good WCs and 77s. Heck my little 210 is smaller than a stock WD45/D17.

That is one good running H for the ci!!! I am learning not to post HP dyno results. Sometimes, it is better to tell how to build the engine and then learn how to make it run.. I have an H that is being repaired, that is well into triple digits. Wildman has a good H as well. Hope to meet him someday!! Good luck, ChadS

In my honest opinion you'd be better off to get a Allis.I have one and dont have any trouble WHIPPING the socks off of a H that has a 300 motor. The guy rebuilt the 300 motor last winter with plans to be able to beat me but couldnt finally I idled mine back one day to let him win it really made him feel better to win 1 time. After he rebuilt I think HE got 37h.p.So buy you a ALLIS if you want to win.SNUFFY

I can't hardly blame the tractor, if the mechanic can't get up to even FACTORY STOCK horsepower...sounds like this boy needs to get a bigger hammer, and maybe start on Deere's that have only TWO cylinders (less for him to screw up!). Congrats on your A/C, and it sounds like you're justifiably proud of it.

:) Very good post. Well written, researched and spoken. It took me a little while to realize how proud he should be to beat that H.

My 88 in 3500 up to 5500 sure loves to eat Farmalls, yum - yum! I make 75 hp at half throttle, to bad all brands didnt realize what six cylinders could do back then.

HERE IN NC WITH OTTPA 88'S ARE NOT ALLOWED TO RUN BELOW 4500, BUT I HAVE A M THAT MIGHT MAKE IT INTRESTING. RULES 2500RPM 12 MPH HERE, WHICH IS WHAT WE ARE SET UP FOR. THE DIXIE CLASSIC PULL 1PM 10/11/03WOULD BE AGOOD PLACE TO COME, ALOT OF HOOKS AND GOOD COMPETION. HAVE A GOOD DAY.

How about all you guys meet at the Dekalb Super pull in Columbus Oh. the second weekend of April. That way you will all have time to do your yearly freshining up and you can all meet each other face to face. Central Ohio rules. No dyno's, just on the track results.
