I have given it a good tune up, went through the carb, lower the air pressure. What else can I do without going into the inside? Just want to pull 4500 and 5500. Or will I get spanked in stock and classic?

You can probably do OK at 4500. You are going to be short on power at 5500. If you can get in any lighter classes that would be the way to go. You should be able to pull 4000 and maybe even 3500 with some work, if you have those classes. Put a tighter spring in your governor and get some RPM.. that will help. I pull a WD with a Gleaner E/D-17 motor in it. Bolts right in and would help you out alot. Just a thought.

Yes you will get beat. I know a friend of mine that has a bone stock WD, he never wins or places, every body beats him by aleast 75Ft or more. He pulls it in the 3500 class.

Change the clucth, fix the hand clucth before you pull.

My uncle pulled his WC for the first time and got second place to a JD B that out powered an A and clearly was not stock. A WD should do OK against other stock tractors. So why does your friends WD do so poorly? I pull a D-17 and always start the load with the hand clutch. If the hand clutch is slipping and has no adjustment left then either repair it or eliminate it but if there is adjustment left then just adjust it. That hand clutch should handle at least as much power as the foot clutch does.

Mr. Allis, What do you mean by "fixing" the hand clutch before you pull? Do you mean bolting it solid so it doesn't slip. If so do you have info on that? I pull a WD45 Diesel.

There are 2 spline shafts that the hand clutch is between. A plate slips over the spline shaft and attaches to the hand clutch. Just remove the hand clutch and get another plate that goes on the front spline shaft. Then bolt them together. The hand clutch is gone all together. You loose about 50 pounds and no slipping.
