okay I have pulled against AC WC and Have been beat by them but I have also beat them more than they have beat me. I dont have anything against farmalls or AC but i would rather have a john deere, oliver, or case. I have built farmalls for other people and made them competitive but They take a lot of dollars to do it and more work. A john deere only has two cylinders to bore, 4 cam lobes to regrind and 2 rods to lengthen. so you get my point.

I will agree with you on the brand of choice, Deere. However, I am not so sure I will agree with the statement of it costing more to rebuild a Farmall compared to a Deere. If you look at the cost per cylinder to rebuild a JD A/G versus a Farmall M-400, I don't think there would be a big difference in price. From Case you are looking at $800-$900 for a piston/sleeve/ring/pin combo kit and $380-$425 for a Deere piston/ring/pin kit. (I am comparing factor rebuilds)

For a JD G flat head or a JD A Heisler head, I would guess that they are comparable in price to a 450 lp head.

I would like Joe Cool to add another 1000 pounds to his AC and pull the 6000 class.

a 27 hp tractor pulling against 80 -100 hp tractors in a 6000# class. right! I pull in a 3500 class, I have pulled at 5500. and verrrryyyy competetive.

A WC wouldn't compete as well in the 6000# class because of the high speed first gear. Now try a high dollar D-17 ya knob.

Well knob job, I was referring to Joe Cool's AC that really pulls good made from (his words) junk parts. Not a high dollar machine.

Besides, I'll be the first to admit that any tractor can be beaten on any given day.

I'm not talking about Joe Cool. I'm talking about you and Deere, dear. Seems to take high dollars to make a Deere pull at all.

Well, that is a matter of opinion about Deere. My opinion is that there are VERY few pulls were ALL the tractors are stock. A purist would argue that the .045 pistons are not stock and therefore that particular tractor should pull the farm stock or open class. Of course one can get into the arguement regarding mine is less/more stock than yours which means absolutely nothing.

By the way, does it take a high price D-17 to pull the 6000# class. (You were the one who mentioned it)

NO and it does mean everything. How can you say stock or not means nothing? Mine is pure stock and I've proved it to nonbelievers on the dyno. I'm sure yours and 90% of my competition is not stock and I still win especially on hard pullen tracks. I wish I could afford a high dollar machine to compete in the upper classes but even then I have taken a trophy every so often. Never have powered out. Pure stock JD 2 cylinders from a 730 on down don't pull anything like a D17 and you can take that to the bank. I've pulled my 720 many times and only am competetive on slippery tracks and she dynoes 59 hp.
