Farmall M whats the max compression

Building an M with 4 3/8 bore and 7.5 stroke with good parts but how much compression is too much whats the max cyl psi a person schould run ? thinking of 11 to 1 but not sure

I would estimate an engine like that would be around 250 to 280lbs compression. You should be able to keep a head gasket sealed with that high of compression. NOTE,, Make sure that you check the block deck to make sure it is true. The slightest distortion will cause gasket failure at that kind of compression. 300psi is about the max I would recommend for an engine with out having to o ring the block, Just my opinion,, ChadS

one of the top M's in the country is running 360+ psi in his M. It's well up in the 500's on cubes too. He puts rod bearings in it a lot :-)

It must be a Lemmons motor,them things eat bearings,,,the only way to know what your comp. is ,,is to C-C the head..... .....

where do you get a compression tester that goes above 300psi???
