G-man's right, the issue is easy hp versus dealing with the weight of the unit---hard to haul, and even though a pulling only unit can get easily under 9000lbs----that is labor intensive and leaves farming out. Another positive, is the trans and rear are durable, as is the engine with moderate rpm restraint. e-bay has gobs of manuals, tech books and owners manuals, as well as a 5020 or 6030 for sale occassionally. To locate one quickly, fastline.com will fill the bill. Good Luck.

I've got a friend that had three 6030s he farmed with, out in wheat country. He sold one, but I believe he still has the other two. They're very strong and reliable tractors. There are also some guys that pull a 6030 down home in farm pulls. Come time for the heavy classes (15,500, 18,000 etc), they always go back and forth with a 4640 quad-range that some friends of mine pull. 6030s only came with synchro-range trannies, so that's somewhat of a disadvantage, but if they can get it moving, it pulls like a freight train. I've seen it with the front wheels 4-5 feet off the ground at the end of the track. They came with naturally-aspirated or turboed/aftercooled 6531 engines (531 cubes), but a 6619 (619 cubes) is a simple swap, and you can make pretty good horsepower with one of those just by turning the screw. I've seen a 6619 in a 5830 forage-harvester make 400+ horsepower, just from the pump being turned up. We "detuned" it to 325.

There is an adapter shaft that bolts onto the hub of the large fan that blows the silage into the wagon. That fan is direct-driven off the back of the engine clutch, through a right-angle gear-set, so it's a fairly accurate place to measure horsepower, with the only loss coming from that gear-set. It's a regular 1000 rpm shaft, and you roll the dyno right up to the side of the forage harvester. I don't know what all the differences would be compared to a tractor, although the accessory mounting and so forth might be different. The point was that with the right fuel system, a stock 6619 can make some righteous power.

Dave Snyder, of the twin turbine "Legend" fame, being Art Arfons old tractor---has a massive cube 6030---somewhere between 896 and 902 cubes---per Turbine Guru Don Deane---rpm range was "come out about a 1000 and cross the finish line about 2100---" a buddy of mine has a video of it---a true "freight train" of a puller!!!
