Hi! I got a Farmall M like to build it up. Motor is locked up right now. I bought a bare SM block (264). I'm planning to use it with the necessary parts from the M block. Also got what I was told a 450 head (8060). Since I need pistons and such. I'd like to know your suggestions as to what to do? Don't want to stroke it. Just looking for somewhere over 80hp or so. I'm planning on shaving the head, carb work, etc. Like to know what you think of this and where to get some of the parts that I will need? Thanks for any comments. Don

YOU CAN'T GET 80HP OUT OF A STOCK STROKE !!!!
CAN'T DO IT PERIOD !!!
1 HAVE A SUPER (M) 264 BLOCK !! THE 8060D IS A HIGHER COMPRESSION (M) HEAD THAT WON'T WORK EITHER . YOU NEED A 400-450GAS HEAD THAT CASTING NUMBER WILL END WITH AN R1 SUFFIX. 400-450 GAS CAM THE BEST ONE TO USE. NO SUCH THING AS AN LP CAM !!! THERE ARE NOT ANY NEW 4.25 PISTON SETS AVAILABLE UNLES YOU CAN FIND NOS. CALL DENNY'S AND ORDER THE 4.31 PISTON SET SLEEVES PISTONS RINGS 831.00BUCKS SORRY BUT THATS NOT A BAD BUY !! MY SUPER M IS SET UP WITH 4-1/8" X 5.25 STROKE !!!! 400GAS HEAD AND A CAM GRIND !!
FANCY HEAD GASKET !!!! SHAVED 40THS OF HEAD ENDED UP WITH ABOUT 65HP FOR MY CLUB PULLING HEAVY THAT'S STILL JUST BEARLY ENOUGH! FORGET 80HP SORRY FOR THE BAD NEWS !!! MY BEST SUGGESTION WOULD BE SAVE THE MONEY PUT IT IN ONE OF YOUR KIDS COLLEGE EDUCATION FUNDS AND FIND A NEW HOBBY !!!! I'VE GOT A TON OF MONEY IN MY TRACTOR HAD SOME FUN BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY !!! HOW DO YOU PLACE A DOLLAR AMOUNT ON FUN VERSES AGRIVATION !!! I'VE HAD ALOT OF SECOND PLACE FINISHES AND A FEW LAST PLACERS !!!! IN ALL, NEXT YEARS SEASON HAS ALREADY STARTED, GET GOOD ADVICE GO SLOW AND DON'T WASTE ANY MONEY. IN TODAYS TRACTOR PULLING ENVIRONMENT IT'S EXPENSIVE TO WIN ALL THE TIME !!!! ALSO CHECK YOUR RULE BOOK SEE WHAT IT SAYS ABOUT THE CLASS YOUR PULLING IN MY 25CENTS WORTH

Have you pulled out the sleeves in the 450 block? Some late model blocks had a large radius sleeve ring at the top of the block,, I have had a M that was 4.5bore and still ran in the original block,, It had 534?? ford pistons. Just my 2 cents,, ChadS

It not a 450 block. It's a Super M block. It don't have any pistons in it. It is 4.25 without sleeves. The head is a 8060 head. I was told it was a 450 head. Like to know what pistons to run? Where best to get them? I only find 4 1/8 pistons. Trying to keep this cheap but Will do what is necessary. Thanks, Don

Run a 4.25 piston in the sm block with a decent grind on the cam.heard a 450lp cam is the best stock one to use.As far as the head is concerned isnt the 8060 a M gas head.A 450lp head would do wonders on that engine.get a good lp manifold and you should get close. (not a pro just trying to help.)

I doubt u will get over 80 horse if you don't stroke it.....I have heard that if you go to the archives and look up free advice(or something like that) that it tells you a good combination...
