Your 49 G is one of the coolest looking G's I've seen. What size tires and rims are you running and where did you get rims? I'm building a 49 G also, hoping for somewhere around 70 to 80 hp. Might run pressed steel wheels. A friend gave me some good 18.4-38's but I wondered if this would be too much tire. Thanks for any help.

Thanks
They are the tires that were on the tractor when it was purchased. They are 14.9x38 Armstrongs mounted on 14" rims (Purchased from Wilson Farms in OH). Some of the local pulls in the area have placed a tire size limit of 15.5x38 on some of the classes. I'd love to mount a set of hard 16.9x38.

As far as the 18's, that is a matter of opinion and certainly effected by the track. I have seen similar G's pull with that big of a tire and I feel that you will be in the "gray" area. Personally I am not sure if I would mount that large of a tire. Of course a lot depends on the weight class you intend to pull. With the steel centers, I am assuming you are going with the lighter classes. I really like the heavy 7500-9500# classes. I think that is where the G really hooks the best. Drop me an email if you have any other questions

hehe.. Sorry Burns.. I had to do it.. 18.4's on this G that I am pulling.. the engine in this G is simialar to Burns' G, but I pull it in the lighter classes.. She can pull from 5600 up.. but I usually do not pull over 75-7600lbs.. can.. just don't.. and most of the tracks that we will pull at are sandy and soft, so the bigger tire works great.. Everyone's got their own opin.. I just run what I like.. and everyone else can deal with... but it seems to be workin.. JDGnut

Burn's.. just had to put a new head gasket in her last night... lol... at least it doesn't take very long..

Looking good there Bryan! Is this the one you built? Haven't heard you say anything about pulling the 70. Did you get either of those hooked up this year?
I didn't even get the old G to a pull this year. Figuring to get it out for a wax job before winter gets here.

Hey no problem. I must say that is one shhwweeet looking G!!!

I bet some of our moist, red clay would make the ol' girl bark with those 18's. LOL Did you strip the hood off? Any suggestions on a good sealant for the manifold bolts?

DP.. Nope.. still the same G I have been pulling.. the other is still in parts all over the shop.. and out in the field.. but I think I almost all of the parts now.. I'll have to get a fresh cam for it.. and I'll need a hood.. but I think I have about everything else.. just have to get it together.. just an empty trany/crank case on the stand now.. still... I havn't gotten to pull the 70D standard much this year.. a few times in the early spring.. and I will maybe 2 times before the year is over.. but Dad has his Allis up and running, and don't have a trailer to haul it.. and some places don't always have a class for it.. (it has water in the tires.. 9100lbs..) We have been working on a friends R.. GPowers tractor.. hopefully it will stay together this weekend... DP.. we did get my Grandfathers 70 gas widefront I had been wanting.. I went up to Iowa on Labor Day weekend and picked it up.. Dad will pull it next weekend, for its first time.. just a stockers.. but a good staight orginal tractor, and seems to have good power.

Burns on the Manifold boltsI usually use a high temp silicon or Permtex (I don't remember which number... #1 I think..) I leave the hood on.. I don't have the factory air cleaner on.. about 30 mins.. and the head is on he floor..if you take your time... just remove the Carb/elbow and filter, exhaust pipe, lower water pipe, manifold, valve cover, rocker arms, push rods.. and U are to the head... and it will fit out the left side easy with out the factory air cleaner in there.. but I see U have yours still on...

yea.. first pull with the flathead on we went to Miss. to the Mean Green Pulling Team's pull.. very good track and sled.. It sure put me in my place.. and didn't help that I didn't have the carb set for the head change.. but we'll be ready next year... Good Luck..
