I pulled my A at the Locke, NY benefit pull and weighed in at 2750( included a pair of 140 lb drive wheel weights and a pair of 40 lb front) Also had some plow levers and carriage assemblies on it( about 20-30 lbs worth) I was first out that day in the 3000 pound class and pulled on a hard clay track. Needless to say, we ( the A and I) didn't do so well. I travelled 85 ft pulling a movable weight sled before the wheels spun. Other tractors in same class did much better( couple of C's, another A, a stripped Oliver 66). My question is as follows: Rules prohibit mounting anything but manufactured weights for this class. I cannot install another pair of 140 pounders as I would then be over 3000 pounds. Also, I cannot hang any suitcase weights- all weights must be bolted- somewhere. KNowing the above, how can I come up with about 250 pounds for next year without gaining any body weight to do it? Obviously, I need to be more competitive with this great runnning tractor but have a dilemma with the weight.

One other thing you should take a look at as well and that would be tires. Tires make a world of difference. Some grip with no extra weight and others can't be made to grip. I am having that problem on my 88. On one track I can take the sled almost to the end. On the next track with the same sled I can never seem to even place. Somewhere there is a set of tires that perform equally on most surfaces. The trick is finding them.

Rick, I pull an A and do fairly well with it. If you need to weigh 3000 lbs,I would add one wheel weight to the right side rear wheel,(I only run that one because I pull 2500 and 2750). This will fairly well balance the side to side weight difference that you have. Your next problem will be keeping the front end on the ground.I run up to 100 lbs way way out front. If your rules don't allow this, why don't you use the other good idea on the other reply that you had and fill the front tires with something? At this point you can use your hitch height to get some simbilance of balance. They make front wheel weights for some tractors. That would be good too if you can locate some. Have a ball !! Gary

Here in W. Pa there are a few associations that do not permit suit case weights in Div 1 or the weights period. A friend of mine was having trouble keeping the front end down on his tractor. He added windshield washer fluid to the front tires for the extra weight. You don't get the corrosive properties of calcium and it is fairly cheap when purchased during a sale. At around 8 pounds per gallon @ 94 cents per jug, you are looking a spending less than $35 to make up the 250 pounds needed.

Its a thought? Hey if someone bitches, just tell them you are storing fluid for an emergancy when your truck runs dry. LOL

Remove the plow levers and you should be pretty close to 280 lbs light, then add you 2 rear wts. If not, take some other item useless for pulling off of the tractor, perhaps a muffler and replace with strait pipe(if you have'nt already). You can also re move th belt pully assy. and make a cover for it if you don't use it much.
GOOD LUCK
