Hello!! Got some questions for all of ya. Please , no bashing ok? Just want to do something wild HA HA. Here is my plans,, I have a 50 H frame,, and rear end. and a rebuilt 263, 6 cyl engine from a IH 403 combine. I was staring at the both, engine, and the H,, and I think I could put that 6 cyl in that H. Here is where my mind has some questions though.. Some have said that the early 460 tractors were nothing more than H-350 rear ends.. Is this true? Is the 350 and the 460 bellhousing close to being the same? I am not worried about the TA,, in this case, I want to use the H bellhousing. But,, Would the flywheel fit inside the H bell housing? I would not be afraid to build a steel flywheel either. but would still like to use the H starter on it,, I measured the back of the blocks,, both the H, and the 263,, I can build a plate to match up the 6 cyl and the H bellhousing,, and still have room to bolt on the frame rails. How many bolts hold the flywheel to the crank on the 6 cyl? Now,, like I said,, no bashing,, just a country boy who wants a new toy ha ha. Need some help,, any specs that anyone would be nice enough to share,,, I would be very appreciative. Thanks,, ChadS

Hi ChadS! hey, nobody caught it yet but the 403 combine motor at 263 cu. in. isn't the same as a Farmall 460. My 460 has 221 cu. in. I think your 263 is a Farmall 560 engine, same bore as the 221 but with a longer stroke crankshaft. A worked over 263 would be a cool deal to bolt into a "stock" 460 for the track next season! My Dad's Farmall 656 gas also had a 263 engine. It was a fine tractor. Don

Now Chad, let me add my 2 cents' worth...I'm coming over here to YT and the pullin' board after dealing for years with old International trucks...and you know that just about every 6-cylinder tractor motor IH used in the '50's and '60's had a truck equivalent...so if you run into problems with the C263, remember that the BD264 truck motor is about the same...and there was always the BD282 and BD308 truck motors, so with a little parts swappin' ingenuity, you might just get a head/valve/piston combo to make your 460H "Somethin' EVEN Wilder YET!"

Good luck!

Chads, I have a friend who put a RD 450 truck motor in an H or 460 rear. Will be fast.

Hey Chad,

Don't know about Indiana, but that would probably be a felony in South Carolina lol. If you must have a 6 banger a DT407 or 466 would have a little more zip I expect. Might be able to run 5th gear in 3500 with a properly tweaked 466.

Good luck and keep us posted!

No,, I have never heard of one that big,, But maybe in a year or two,, if it seems to hold together, a big motor will be right in line,, Thanks,, ChadS

I don't doubt a bit. 12 MPH is about as fast as they'll let em go around here so I doubt if they could make it in 5th gear.

Figured I'd hooraw old Chad a little. I think these NATPA folks have his dander up. I still think he needs to bring "Something Wilder" down here to NC for a little heads up match with the WILDMAN'S H.

How bout it Chad and WILDMAN?

Yep, HA HA, Can't afford to buy a 460 tractor,, so why not make one!! My plans is to make that 263 stong enoughto run 4th gear solidly, and run about 3000rpm,, should be right around 12mph,, with 14.9X 38s. ChadS

you may have to drill the back of engine to fit the H bell houseing, again that is what i did for the 201 in the VAC. tom

chads: why not machine the H flywheel to fit the 460 crank? that is what i did to put a 201 combine engine in a VAC that way the H starter would work no problem just a thought from a case friend tom

Though about doing that too, I will find out about the bolt pattern on the crank,, if it is a 4 bolt,, it may bolt right on, hoefully,,, LOL. The top bolt holes will have to be drilled and tapped,, I have not looked at that part yet, Thanks Tom!!! How have you been? ChadS

I've seen a IH combine motor in a 300 so a H shouldn't be a problem. The frame was longer but I didn't look at it very close, sounds like a good puller in the works.

should not be a big problem, friend put a 706 in an M and some others have put a 466 in a 560 so I would think you wouldn't stress too much over this conversion.
