I would like to attempt my own dry filter conversion. If anyone has seen one I would like some details on how it's done. Or if it's better left to the professionals tell me I'm nuts!

The first thing you need to do is to remove the wire mesh from the canister. The one I have for sale was converted by Renaissance tractor. I'll try to explain what was done from the top down. In the center, there a 2"long 2"ID pipe welded to the top factory lid. Welded at the bottom of this short piece of pipe is a long U shape mounting bracket made out of flat steel stock. This long U shape mounting flange is what holds the paper filament up tight against another plate. This "other" plate is located about an inch below the factory top lid. Make a plate out of heavy flat steel stock about 1 1/2" bigger than the inside diameter. Cut half circles out of the outside of the disc. Arrange the circles and adjust the diameter so that there is about 3/4" between the circles. The material left between the half circle cutouts is bent up for a mounting flange and then welded to the canister. The half circle holes provide a passage for the clean air to return to the top of the canister and eventually to the carb. Don't forget there needs to be a hole in the middle for the pipe. This whole assembly needs to be welded in place. What have you got to loose by trying it yourself. If it doesn't work you can consider mine or have Renaissance to the work. I can save you $65. Drop me an email if you need any further descriptions. I tried the digital camera but they were clear as mud.
