How many RPM will a chain coupling stand? Specifically a 60 pitch 18 tooth much like would be found in an oliver.

Anyone made an input shaft out of coldrold 1018 and cut splines on it and had good success? I am looking for some information to confirm my thoughts or to steer me in the right direction. I need to make an input shaft to mate a over the counter clutch to an oddball tractor.

1018 is a better grade of cold roll containing less lead. but in my option it will never hold up to splines. so you could try drill rod it is sold in 3ft length and is harder than 1018 after machineing you could flame harden it?

Try 4140 or 4150 HT They are much stronger then 1018. Drill rod comes in Air harding & Oil harding
This is NOT what you want. 4140 & 4150 come in anealed or heat treated. The heat treated will be around 28-32 rc. This is verry durable, yet machinable. Hope this helps.
