Hello,
My name is Chris Brown and I am 17. I want to start pulling tractors. But, there are no clubs in my area? How would I go about starting one? Should I look for diesel or a gas??? And, Where can I find a website about starting up in pulling and building a tractor? Also, if it is possible, I really like Farmall and John Deere tractors. What kind should I start with? I mite be able to get a Farmall Super A from the farm, would that be good?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris, Save yourself some headaches and frustration and save your money for college. Just Kidding, but Tractor pulling is a money game, and the faster you want to go the more it cost. I think the most cost affective pulling tractors are some of the later two lunger John Deere's like a 620-630 or 720-730. You can get one running well stock, and then just run it in first gear, usually having a nice old pulling tractor for around 4 to 5 thousand dollars. However, they are slow, and unless you are on sticky tracks not the most competitive. from there it's just a matter of how fast, and consistant puller you want to be. Any brand can be made to pull. I like Olivers, because they are also kinda cheap, before modifications start. I know what other people say about the big bore 4 cylinders having more lug, than the 6 cylinder, but I like the scream of a good oliver 6 cylinder. It's all personal preference. I guess it all depends on what type of pulling, and how you want to do it. If I were you, I'd find a club that pulls as close to stock rules as you can get, and pull on their circuit. That way you can buy what you want and be competitive. other than that it's all a money game, and brand names mean nothing. I like gas tractors, because I understand them better, but again it's just my personal preference. When you figure out what your going to get post back. I'm sure there's enough information on this board to help with all the needed modifications. Later Greg H.

first where are you located, and second you should look at the rules and regulations of the area you plan on pulling. This should help you decide on a tractor. I favor jd's over any others but i have friends that pull the other varieties. Please feel free to email me if ya have any other questions.

Joining or starting a club may not be the answer. There should be some or many pulls within 100 miles of your area. The best advise I can offer is to spend next summer going to as many pulls as you can. Watch EVERYTHING: what wins, what doesn't, who wins consistantly, who doesn't, what tracks are loose, hard, or sticky, what towing setup is used (the heavier the tractor the more towing vehicle you need). Ask questions and explain that your interested in this bad habit (ha,ha). If you know someone close by that pulls, offer to help. You'll learn alot and it will payoff later. Young guys are the future of the sport and you should be well received. When you decide what brand, model, and weight classes your interested in, post on this board and we'll try to help. Good luck.
